We visited the historic centre of Lima- Plaza de Mayor where we saw the Government Palace, Cathedral of Lima and Archbishop's Palace of Lima.
After a quick day exploring Lima we were on the flight to Cusco the next morning. After a one and a half hour flight we arrived in the smaller, quaint town of Cusco where our cheery driver Miguel picked us up. We were then on our way to Urubamba (small town on the way to Machu Picchu) as we didn't stay in Cusco city. The views were just unbelievable, everything so green and untouched!
On our journey we stopped to play with the Alpacas and Llamas and witnessed the Condor bird which the Inca people treasure. The condor is the largest flying land bird in the Western Hemisphere- this bird was massive!
We then explored Pisac market and the little square. All the Peruvian ladies were selling their textiles and little souvenirs with the amazing vibrant colours! The prints really are impressive.
We finally made it to our cozy cottage (on an estate) in Urubamba where we would be staying for 2 nights. Honestly, where we stayed in Urubamba has to be one of the most picturesque, serene and peaceful places I have ever been. It really was beautiful and it was hard to describe the feeling in words. Not a sound, just birds chirping, snow capped mountains in the distance and lush green surrounding you. The cottage was perfect for us and our host Dee was such help!
The little market in Urubamba was full of ladies perched on steps or sidewalks with the produce they had grown on their land. So much fresh produce from potatoes to corn to herbs.
