Travel: Cusco Peru

After our adventure at Machu Picchu we slept a night in Ollantaytambo and then that morning had plans to go to Cusco town. We were surprised when we were told there was a strike and could not get out of town. Well we convinced our hotel to find us a taxi and take us.. what an adventure. The route we took provided some of the most stunning views I think Nikola and I have ever seen.

We arrived in Cusco after a 2 hour taxi journey, Cusco is a beautiful cobbled street town located in the Peruvian Andes and was once the capital of the Inca Empire. This city has a very old world feel with its archeological ruins and Spanish colonial architecture. It is also 11,220 ft above sea level, surprising I didn't get an altitude sickness, which was great! You do huff and puff going up and down all the stairs in this city though. We enjoyed our Pisco Sours (National Drink) and of course Peruvian chocolate. You must visit the San Pedro market, full of fresh fruit, homemade bread, textiles, cheese, meats and so much more! It definitely is a cultural experience you cannot miss and everything is very inexpensive!
